Summer school STONE2020

Following the 14th International Conference on the Deterioration and Conservation of Stone 2020 in Göttingen and Kassel/Germany, a summer school lasting 10 days (13th - 23th September 2020) will be offered to train young scientists and restorers from all over the world. The program is out now.

Practical examples will be discussed concerning topics that will broaden the participant´s conservation knowledge, leading to opportunities for scientific exchange and interaction.

The summer school pursues a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach of young professionals from around the world who are involved in preservation of natural stone in an international dimension is one objective of this program. Therefore a holistic understanding of stone decay will be conveyed for the stone material from which historical and modern monuments constructed.

Furthermore, effective conservation measures and practical understanding of appropriate repair methods and long-term management strategies will be deepened.

The participants will discuss both, the fundamental theories of heritage preservation as wells the question of how advances in technology and research have influenced practical approaches that affect all phases of stone protection and conservation.

The summer school is designed for a maximum of 16 participants and will be generously funded by the          Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt - German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). 

 

Interested junior researchers need to sent a CV, a cover letter and name of a contact person as potential reference to: ssieges@gwdg.de

 

A course fee of 350,00 € includes:

  • participation 

  • accommodation 

  • meals

  • travel expenses for the planned excursions

  • and as a basic teaching material the book „Stone in Architecture“ (eds: Siegesmund & Snethlage)
